Praise All Day

"It is good to praise the Lord and make music to your name, O Most High, proclaiming your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night." (Psalm 92:1-2)

Today, we wake up, we face another morning, we face another day. We work to get through our jobs, our working from home, our housework, our schoolwork, our yardwork, our family life, whatever else we have to face. Sometimes it may seem tedious, especially as we both go through the same routine, and face new challenges. It can be hard to get through the day.

And yet, we are also reminded that God is with us. The reason we can face another day, and get through another day, is because He gives us the strength to keep going. We have access to His power all day, and every day. He gives us the ability to keep going. We also can give the worries and anxieties of the day over to Him, which makes it even easier to get through the day. When we give our worries and anxieties to God, we know and trust that He is taking care of them, which lifts them from our own minds. When the worries and anxieties of our day are lifted, we can praise God, and thank Him for everything the day brings.

Even though the day may bring more drudgery and tedium, God brings much good during the day. He shows His love to us in special ways, even simple, little ways, during the day. He gives blessings to us. He keeps us going. He resolves our worries and issues. He causes unexpected things to happen, like an unexpected phone call, visit, or gift. He calms our minds in the midst of our anxieties. He brings healing to us. He is always good to us.

For all this, we can thank and praise God. We can praise Him at any time during the day - so why not praise and thank Him all the time during the day? Today, take a moment, even once an hour, simply to thank God for something good that has happened during the day, up to that point. Take a moment to thank Him for something He has done to help you. Thank Him for an unexpected gift you've received, or someone who has called or visited you, or a breakthrough that has happened. Think of something good that God has done for you, and thank and praise Him for it. It will also help to get through the day, because you will be reminded God is with you and loves you. Praise and thank Him all day - and every day!

Dear God, I praise you and thank you for all the gifts and blessings of this day, and for being with me all day and every day. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Still Reaching Out " For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,  neither the present nor the future,  nor any powers,   neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God  that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 8:38-39 NIV) It finally happened. On Sunday afternoon, here in Ohio, Governor Mike DeWine issued a Stay-At-Home Order, which went into effect at midnight last Monday night. What does it mean? Well, simply that now we have to remain even more separated than ever before. We can leave our homes to care for relatives, go shopping, engage in outdoor activities, and that's essentially all. The biggest challenge is going to be remaining connected to each other - which, actually, is much of the reason this devotional blog exists: as a way to keep connected. Even though technology can keep us connected with each other, especially by telephone and video chat, it's st...

Still Connected "These things I remember as I pour out my soul: how I used to go to the house of God, under the protection of the Mighty One with shouts of joy  and praise among the festive throng." (Psalm 42:4 NIV) One of the hardest adjustments many of us have had to make has been our churches closing. Worship services have stopped for at least the last couple of weeks all over the country, and this has affected both small and large churches. It has been hard having to stay home, seemingly disconnected from our friends and support at our churches, and having our worship routines seemingly disrupted. Yet the good news is that God is with us, any time, any where. He is not confined to one location, building, time of day, or day of the week. He is with us at every moment, and does not take a break from watching over us, because He is all-powerful. He is almighty and all-seeing, so He is able to be everywhere at once, and handle everything for every per...
