Special Delivery, Always On Time

"From the Lord comes deliverance. May your blessing be on your people." (Psalm 3:1 NIV)

During this pandemic, a common sight has been even more UPS and Amazon Prime drivers out on the road and going to people's homes than before - at least, apart from certain times of the year, like Christmas. With the Stay-At-Home Order continuing to remain in place, more people have been ordering items online, and having them delivered. Of course, what this has also meant is that so many people have been ordering items to be delivered that now certain companies are on at least a month's backorder and expected delivery date. This has made it a bit more of a challenge to order items online, and expect a timely delivery.

There is, however, one timely delivery - or, rather, deliverance - we can always depend on. Through His prophets, God had promised to send a Savior to save the world from sin and death. Then, he delivered on that promise by sending His Son, Jesus, to die on the cross to save everyone from sin and death. And then, Jesus further delivered on that promise to save by rising again, now living eternally. God does everything He promises - including doing everything necessary to save the world He made and the people He gave life to.

He also promises that everyone who believes in Him, and trusts in His death and resurrection for the forgiveness of sins and eternal life, has exactly what is promised - forgiveness of sins and eternal life. He promises that everyone who believes in Him will also be delivered, or rescued, from a life of anything that leads to sin and death. He promises that anyone who asks Him for help will be delivered from addiction, alcoholism, anything destructive. He also promises that anyone who trusts in Him will live forever after death. Jesus is God, therefore, as God has always done, He does everything He promises, delivering on those promises. Everything He promises is true - His promise of deliverance from sin and death, His promise of eternal life, and His promise of a new life right now.

Dear Jesus, thank you for delivering on the promise of salvation by dying and rising again for me, and for delivering me from sin and death. In your Name, Amen.

Still Reaching Out " For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,  neither the present nor the future,  nor any powers,   neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God  that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 8:38-39 NIV) It finally happened. On Sunday afternoon, here in Ohio, Governor Mike DeWine issued a Stay-At-Home Order, which went into effect at midnight last Monday night. What does it mean? Well, simply that now we have to remain even more separated than ever before. We can leave our homes to care for relatives, go shopping, engage in outdoor activities, and that's essentially all. The biggest challenge is going to be remaining connected to each other - which, actually, is much of the reason this devotional blog exists: as a way to keep connected. Even though technology can keep us connected with each other, especially by telephone and video chat, it's st...

Still Connected "These things I remember as I pour out my soul: how I used to go to the house of God, under the protection of the Mighty One with shouts of joy  and praise among the festive throng." (Psalm 42:4 NIV) One of the hardest adjustments many of us have had to make has been our churches closing. Worship services have stopped for at least the last couple of weeks all over the country, and this has affected both small and large churches. It has been hard having to stay home, seemingly disconnected from our friends and support at our churches, and having our worship routines seemingly disrupted. Yet the good news is that God is with us, any time, any where. He is not confined to one location, building, time of day, or day of the week. He is with us at every moment, and does not take a break from watching over us, because He is all-powerful. He is almighty and all-seeing, so He is able to be everywhere at once, and handle everything for every per...
